If Bob is looking for local sources, George <n0sbu at arrl.net> sells
coax connectors and other connectors at local St Paul hamfests. He
lives in Hugo and could probably be prevailed upon if you need
something quickly. Otherwise, the next Twin Cities local hamfests are
in Rush City on Sept 7 and Plymouth on Sept 21. I would expect George
to be at both events, and you can never be sure what individual
sellers will have. They will often be the cheapest to buy from.
Personally, I've been mostly buying crimp connectors these days and I
order assorted types that I may use in advance, just to have them "in
stock" if I need them. (I really prefer crimp type UHF connectors
instead of solder types because I usually melt either the connector or
the coax while trying to solder the shield decently...) Most of the
time I'm buying from Ebay and I try to choose the best combination of
price and delivery delay depending what is important at the time. If
you look around you can find a good crimp tool for $25-$30 or $50 and
up for a similar tool. Be sure you get a tool with multiple jaws for
various coax connectors and a jaw for 10A to 45A Anderson Power Pole
connectors.
