Student and Maker PADS Maker versions offer up to 1500 connections, a
board size of 25 square inches and 6 layers (4 signal layers max), and
a 1 year (free) license.
Several months ago, the NLRS breakfast talk included a question about
free software for designing PCBs. There are a lot of different
programs, and this is another one. Digikey is offering a download link
for the free version of the software. PADS is a high-end industry PCB
design software. One possible advantage is that Digikey has all their
available parts in a parts library that PADS can use for layout. That
is always something you will want. Better to use a professionally
designed part layout than have to make them yourself....
Just one more free option for hobby PCB designers. But I don't think
this design tool has the special options required for microwave
boards, they would be a different class all together...

Never argue with an idiot, the people watching can't tell you apart.
The problem with trying to be the village idiot in Congress is the
tremendous competition for the position.
