Hi everyone,

I did some site scouting the other day. Some of the sites were as
remembered and others not so good. Here is what I found:

Chubb Church EN34jn
Dakota Cty Highview Rd and 267th St W
Very limited in it's good views 160º to 200º and even then there
are some trees. Usable over a larger range of bearings but trees
are even worse. OK for distances out to 200 km. Has a narrow
opening north where you can see the Mpls buildings.
    Not worth the trouble.

South Wanamingo  EN34og
Goodhue County MN 57 and 480 th St. 3 mi south of Wanamingo on 57.
Excellent site even with corn. Views at from 50º to North to 240º.
Some views are better then others. There is a small opening straight
East along the road. Room for six to eight vehicles but they will
have to
setup on either side of the road. Nothing to the south.

Cannon Falls EN34nl
South of Cannon Falls on Highview road. I think I saw about four
Highview
        roads while looking around.
Good views from 20º to 320º. It is fair to the East but there are trees.
No good other directions as the ground is higher and there are trees
that
are close to the west. I forgot how many trees there are as I have only
been there after dark in the last five years.

Vasa EN34pm
North of Vasa and MN 19 on 293rd St between Vasa Trail and Smaland Rd.
Also usable if needed just north of 293rd on Goodhue Cty 41.
Excellent from E through North to 220º any time. EN15lj Wilmont rest
stop  has been worked from there in the past. May be able to see
further to the SW if there are beans. Corn this year. Views good
along a
line to about Omaha but not further South.

This site offers an opportunity to rove on the Buffalo Ridge in areas
that are further north of those that we have used in the past.

Whitetail Woods Park   SE of Rosemount. Vermillion Highlands area.
    EN34lq.
Turn at the sign Lone Rock Trail   UMore Park   U of M.
One way to get there is to take 160 th St E [Dakota county 46]
West of US 52 to Biscayne Ave. Go South to 170th St. Then East
to 158th St W. 158th is a diagonal road, take it south to the sign
mentioned above. There is a port-a-potty there and a large
    gravel parking area.

This site is open from 150º to 200º but there are some single trees
in  the path. You can get around them by moving to a different
spot in the parking lot. All other directions are blocked by trees.
Not suitable for SE MN or NE Iowa areas. Should work from
Strawberry Point, IA and west to Storm Lake, IA. So good for a
rove East and West of I-35. There is a radio tower just east of this
site that has nice views to the SE. However, the site is
surrounded by trees every where except right by the gate to
the tower. There is room for a couple of cars only.

I have all of the above listed on HeyWhatsThat. Look for MN_SiteName.
For example MN_Vasa.

On my way back from Cannon Falls I was thinking about the nice
views to the south as I drove out of the river valley. I will look around
the area in early November to see if I can find some sites that may
work with South views.

Without Buck Hill the rovers options are limited. I still prefer to rove
SE MN and NE Iowa this time. We will have to see how everything works out.
