    Good evening all.
Several years ago, my wife bought me a gift from a farm auction in Northeast Iowa. In the box was a pristine (circa 1966) Juliette "Solid State 12 Instant Sound" portable AM-FM radio. The radio box was unopened and still had the original batteries that were sealed in plastic and showed no sign of leakage after fifty years. And here is where the story begins.
The radio sat for some time on top of our refrigerator in the kitchen. At lunch, we used to listen to KNXR 97.5 in Rochester, Minnesota. For those whom remember, KNXR was a wonderful FM station that played an "easy listening" format. From our Northeast Iowa location and the distance to the station, KNXR was usually fairly weak, yet Q5 most of the day. It stayed in that position for most of the summer, playing soft tunes from Andy Williams to Ferrante & Teicher The FM fidelity of the Juliette (being mono) was poor, but that only added to the mystic of past radio. Days went by, and even my wife (Kim) would turn it on at lunch, just loud enough to enjoy and aid to digestion.
Low and behold, one day it happened! My wife and I were sitting at the table eating lunch with the "Juliette" (still on top of the fridge) whilst listening to Welk music. Then came a break in the signal. For two or three seconds the music went away. With a 5-9+ signal I heard "Air Canada Seven Five Nine, checkin' in three, five, oh". I looked at her and she looked at me. The music returned almost instantly. Just like old times.
Sometimes overload is not that bad of a deal.
