I think the Cushcraft A50-3S uses a gamma match where the gamma capacitor is formed by the small inner tubing sliding inside the outer tubing arm and there is a plastic insulator (tubing) between them.  I suspect that moisture is shorting out the plastic insulator.  Make sure that there is some heat shrink, or electrical tape sprayed with a clear coat, to water proof that open end of the gamma arm where the small tubing is inserted.
