At the Perry, Iowa hamfest last Saturday I acquired a Bird 4410-16 lug
not knowing it was not compatible with my Bird 43 parts and meters. Its
rated at 100 watts from 1.8 to 2.3 GHz with a 4410 or 4411 meter. I see
from the calibration procedure for the 4410 meter that with 100 watts
the slug puts out nearly 2 volts but its good down to 100 mw with
considerable switchable gain on a circuit board that the schematic isn't
in the Bird manuals I've downloaded. I do have a single slug line
section that the 4410-16 slug will go in. I haven't tested it to see if
it actually makes contact. Is there data about the 4410 family slugs to
show detailed voltage vs power over their full range so one could use
any handy VTVM and make a power calibration chart? Is there a cheap 4410
or 4411 meter laying around? Or should I swap for a 100L or 100M slug to
go with my 30 microamp type 43 meter? Any such slugs out there for
trading? The ham I bought from had a 50L but I anticipate needing a 100
watt range if I come up with a Spectrian single board PA.
I do have a 30 dB 2-4 GHz directional coupler and lots of attenuators so
could easily use my HP432 and 8478 to measure as I work up a PA for my
2.3 GHz transverter and could create a calibration curve for the DC
output of the 4410-16 if I was willing to do the work.
