Hello,
Coming up on the weekend of September 9 and 10 is the ARRL September
VHF Contest. The VHF contests are a great way to find out how your
station is performing, practice on-air procedures, and get comfortable
with logging. They become much more interesting if there are a lot of
stations on in your area, giving you more stations to contact,
callsigns to log, and a better estimate of the simplex working range
of your station.

As part of the leadership of the Bloomington Amateur Radio
Association, I would like to issue a challenge to other local clubs in
the Twin Cities, the Dakota Division, and anywhere else: get on the
air for the September VHF contest and turn in your log.

To make things easier for everyone, I recommend that FM-only stations
coordinate a time to get on the air (4:00-4:30 PM Saturday, 8:00-8:30
AM Sunday, and 4:00-4:30 PM Sunday). I've also put together two
guides on VHF contesting that are aimed at operators who haven't done
contests (or VHF contests) before.
Short: https://mnhamradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ae0ee_vhf_quickstart.pdf
Longer: https://mnhamradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ae0ee_contest_intro.pdf

It doesn't take a big station to make contacts, and the more small
stations who get on, the more stations you can work and the more fun
it is! There's even a category for FM-only participants.

I hope to hear you on the air, and to see your log represented in the
write-up in QST!

Regards,
  Bill Mitchell
