I have used a wooden wheelbarrow handle with an Alliance rotor for an
elevation cross boom. They are square for about half the length and
round for the other half. At least the one I used decasdes ago was round
for half its length. Measures 1-1/4" diameter. The new ones in the shed
aren't round for long. Look at big box home centers like Menard's.
Otherwise heavy wall PVC pipe, like schedule 80 can work. 1" is 1.3i5"
O. D. 1-1/4" is 1.66" O.D. Farmtek sells sold fiberglass fence posts up
to 3/4" diameter that should work. The PVC pipe will be stiffer if you
can find a round wooden dowel to fit. For that matter wooden closet
poles or large wooden dowels could work but dowels probably won't be
long enough. Fiberglass or wooden shovel or hoe handles might work too.
Also interior round stair rails.
