Terminating the feedline at the top of the tower is where I would start as well.
As others have said, take a close look at the center pins on those male N connectors to make sure that they are not protruding too far out nor are they too far recessed. Also take a look at the female N where the male N center pin connects to assure that they are OK; on rare occasions I have had center pins that mashed the mating female center pins because they were too long or off center. I have seen one double barrel N female where the center pins were broken off. Check all the center pins on all the connectors, male and female. While visually inspecting them make sure that there isn't a piece of wire or something that got in there that is causing a short too.
Depending on the type of antenna feed you have you could try to use a simple ohm meter too. If the antenna is a T match then it should read as a short (0 ohms) between the center pin and the braid ..... if it reads open then you have an open somewhere. If its a gamma match it should read open, so if it reads short you have a short somewhere.
As others have mentioned, if you have a friend with a time domain reflectometer (TDR), that can show you exactly where the problem is.
