I got the 6m yagi up and tested with the antenna analyzer just before the
start of the contest. Everything looked good until I powered up the radio.
The SWR jumped way up and the tuner couldn't get a match. After some
trouble shooting I found when I moved the coax around the SWR would drop .
I'm not sure if the connector is bad or if the coax has been damaged.
Luckily I had picked up more coax and made up a new 40' cable. Now
everything was working good but bands were dead and then the thunder storms
came through. About a hour after the weather cleared 6M opened and made
everything worthwhile.
Then Murphy hit again Sunday morning. When I switched to CW the rig would
just send a solid tone even though the indicator on the rigblaster was
flashing the CW correctly. It worked fine Saturday. When I turned the power
down it would start working correctly. It appeared RF was getting into the
rigblaster.
After checking connectors a cables I found when I unplugged the footswitch
cable it cured the problem. In the process of getting everything going the
cable was wrapped around the coax and power cables. Rerouting the cable away
from everything cured the problem.
I was able to add a few more to the log before the thunderstorms came back.
Then it was almost time to pack up and head home.
