While searching for other Collins antenna topics I came upon:

titled "A Study of the Atmosphere Using Microwaves" might be interesting 
reading considering how we squeeze out long tropo contacts using CW 
these days. Its a 98 MB download. They tested over s 230 km path that we 
have probably been close to using on occasion. Its some 250 pages so 
won't get read instantly.
