This is an upgraded RTL-type dongle for SDR purposes. It is an upgrade
above the $25 RTL-SDR.blog dongle because it has a better TCXO and a
12-bit A/D instead of the 8-bit A/D that the cheaper dongles has. The
common RTL-SDR.blog dongle with 8-bit A/D has about 48dB dynamic
range. This upgraded dongle with 12-bt A/D has about 80dB dynamic
range and a faster sample rate for wider bandwidth. OTOH, in the $100
and up range there are quite a few entry-level SDR options you can
look at.
