Hello, NLRS folks. In a few weeks it will be August, and that means that in
less than a month it will be time for the start of the ARRL 10 GHz and Up
Cumulative Contest.
Since selling my home in Apple Valley and moving the rest of my stuff to
Texas, I have to change my strategy for annual Minnesota vacationing to see
friends and family up North. Instead of spending all of June through
September in MN, and being able to do most of the year's ARRL
VHF/UHF/Microwave contests in MN, I now find myself without a summer home
complete with hamshack!
My plan was to spend about 6 weeks, encompassing both the August and
September weekends of the 10G & Up Contest in MN, staying in a house in the
Twin Cities owned and occupied by other family members of mine. For reasons
that I won't discuss here, those plans have blown up.
So the new plan is for my wife and me to spend only about a week in
Minnesota, staying with friends of ours who live in Minneapolis. We plan to
arrive shortly before the August contest weekend and return back to Texas
shortly after the August contest weekend. The point of this message is that
I am hoping to play in the contest for the August weekend, but I would need
to borrow a 10 GHz rig since there won't be room in my car to fit
everything we need to haul back and forth between TX and MN if I bring my
own rig. Given the amount of driving back and forth between here and there
(over 1,000 miles each way), it would be best for me if I did NOT plan on
any roving, either. I am hoping that there will be plans to operate from a
fixed site like Buck Hill during the August weekend, and I would like to
join y'all then and there if I could.
How does that sound, in terms of operating plans for the first weekend and
the likelihood of borrowing a loaner rig? I realize that loaning me a rig
for the August weekend would have the downside of technically making that
rig unavailable as a loaner to anyone else for the September weekend when I
will be back home in South Central Texas, so I don't want to mess up any
plans if you have someone else who might put the rig to good use on both
weekends.
