Looks like I need to scrub the W0AUS/R idea for Sunday, so no roving for me this weekend. However, W0ZQ will be on from the home station in EN34it on & off throughout the weekend looking for the rovers and whomever else is on. I may be able to work a station or two on the uW bands if we get some snow (snow scatter). Lets hope that we get a little wintertime E's to enhance things on 6m too.
Don't forget to update your plans on the W0UC activity page. A link to it can be found on the NLRS website. The spreadsheet has two tabs along the bottom, one for fixed stations and one for rovers. This is a great resource for helping to tracking those puppies as it includes their planned route, time, and home freq's.
Note that this may be your opportunity for fame and glory. Based on the ARRLs recent actions and the change to the operating categories that will occur starting with the June contest, it appears that this will be the first and the last contest to offer the new Single-Op Unlimited operating category (spotting assistance permitted) for high power, low power, and QRP Portable. If you do well in one of these three categories, you could have a certificate worthy of a collectors item.
Also, don't forget that the contest does include two newer operating categories as well; the Single-Op Three band (6, 2, 432) and FM-only categories. Make sure to read the rules on the ARRL website or via the link provided from the NLRS website.
So whether you are a causal contester, hard core, or don't give a hang about contesting whatsoever, the January VHF contest provides for a fun operating event for all and there is room for all. Amazing things can happen on the World Above and its that aura and magic that draws many of us to the challenges that it presents above and beyond HF.
Hope to see you this weekend.
73, Jon
W0ZQ
