The January VHF SS contest is coming, weekend after next! There are a few
rule adjustments, but times and format are same as usual. Please enter
your plans on the spreadsheet at:

ROVERS: Please pick an operating frequency away from 144.200, and stick to
it! Chicago area, this means YOU! W9FZ/R and AC0RA/R have proven that
this is a key to success.

FIXED STATIONS: When rovers come back, give them priority on their chosen
frequency! These freq's do become great alternate calling freq's, but this
only works if you listen for the rover and let him take over when he comes
"home"!

ACTIVE CONTESTERS: Get the heck off of 144.200 with your CQ's! Fine, when
the band goes dead, do some calling there, but 90% of your CQ's should be
away from 144.200. Too many people are angry about this and turning off
their radios. Locally, this applies especially to stations in EN35! Other
regions, please start calling out your local violators.

ONE BIG PLUS THIS YEAR: For this first time in ages, SS has moved back to
it's old date on the NFL's off-weekend before the Super Bowl! There will
be little reason for people to observe radio silence Sunday PM. Rovers
take heart - Sunday afternoon and evening rates should improve!

With reasonably cooperative weather, and some brave rovers, this could be a
good year for the SS. Please post your plans now, tentative though they
may be at this point. Rovers in particular are helped by knowing what
other routes are being considered.
