Guys my nephew in MO just passed his general test a week ago and soon wants to be "radio active". I never knew (in his later 30s). He is INTERESTED in HF not just working repeaters with a hand held. His youngest son (14yr old) also passed his Tech. He hopes that they can have some father son fun around the radios. Excited about playing with antennas. It all sounds like so much fun to him. I fear that he won't have the local support to Elmer him through it.
I am (He) is looking for a starter rig. $$ is an issue, so no way to get him into a 746Pro etc. Fear that we may be looking at old transceivers most likely with tube finals.. He really doesn't have much in the way of an Elmer short of me 600miles away. I MAY be down there at the end of the month and can get him going if a rig can be found that would work out for him. One downside would be that 6m would probably not be a possibility then. R A T s Then his son could "play" too. That would have been nice. He has another friend 6 miles away that just get his ticket with no radio.
If you have something that might work for him/them, would you drop me an email. He/they has/have no electronics background so we are not looking for a project (nor am I really).
Thanks 73 Bill K0AWU
