Hello NLRS land-
The August UHF Contest results are in the recent January version of QST. The shortened article does not contain all the contest information and the ARRL contest website has not been updated since FD.
David, W9HQ, and his family are highlighted on the first page, nice picture guys, and a picture of Wyatt's, AC0RA/R, very effective rover graces page 2 of the article.
Looking at the Top Ten, W0ZQ pulled off a double double by placing 9th in the Rover category and 8th in the SOLP category. Paul, W0UC, placed 2nd in the SOHP category. In the Rover category we had Mel, KC0P/R placing 2nd, Carol, N0HZO/R in 3rd, W0ZQ/R in 8th, and Jerry, K0CQ/R in 10th place. In the Limited Rover, Wyatt, AC0RA/R placed 1st in the nation, more than tripling his score over his closest competitor and generating the highest scope from any category in the contest. In the same category, Bill, AE0EE/R made the Top Ten in 10th place. Finally, in the Unlimited Rover category we see David, W9HQ and his family of Lorene, KC9MRX/R and Emily, KC9VEM, placing 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively. If my arithmetic is right, that is 11 NLRS members finishing in the Top Ten in their respective operating categories. My apologies to anyone that I may have missed in this brief contest summary.
The article did not include affiliated clubs so we will need to wait for the website articles to be posted to know how we placed. I suspect with such a good showing that we did well. The QST article also includes some interesting graphs and data showing the number of bands that are active and number of logs through the years. 2015 had 174 logs submitted in what appears to be somewhat of a slow growth curve over the last few years.
If you have not explored the fun of UHF, think about giving it a try. 222 and 902 are awesome bands, and perhaps some of the best Rover bands there are. The microwaves, 1296 to 10 GHz, present challenges but the thrill of making those Q's is unparalleled.
A tip of the hat to John, K9JK, for his work in putting together this article AND for his many years of strong support for this contest.
