[NLRS] Aurora 2015: NLRS business meeting highlights

Hello NLRS land -
It was good to see everyone at Aurora 2015. Here are some highlights from the NLRS business meeting.
NLRS Sponsored Contest Plaques: The NLRS is currently sponsoring three plaques for the ARRL June VHF contest and one plaque for CQWWVHF. These 2014 ARRL June VHF Contest plaques are being awarded to AB5EB for Overall SO3B, WB0HHM for SOLP Dakota Division, and our "roving" plaque that moves around goes to VA3ZV for SOLP Canada. The CQWWVHF USA Rover plaque is awarded to AC0RA/R.
Donations: The following NLRS club donation was made in memory of John Fox, W0LER. $50 to QTH.NET, $100 to the ARRL's Education and Technology Fund, and $150 to the ARRL's Spectrum Defense Fund.
Nets: K0SIX and KA0PQW were recognized for running the 6 and 2m Sunday night nets.
2014NLRS Limited Rover Award: Thepurpose of the NorthernLights Radio Society Limited Rover Awardis to stimulate activity during the ARRL’s UHF contest, to promoteroving, and to recognize those rovers who are operating with threebands or less. This Award, created prior to the ARRLs Limited Rovercategory and is not associated with it, is open to anyone located inNorth America. Full rules can be found on the NLRS.org website. Thisyear’s second place NLRS Limited Rover award goes to HowardHazelrigg, W4PH, from Asheville, NC. Howard made 8 contacts in 6grids on 222 and 18 contacts in 8 grids on 432 for a total score of1,248 points. Congratulations Howard. Theyear’s first place winner of the NLRS Limited Rover Award is NLRSclub member Gary Danelius, WB0LJC. Gary combined the UHF contestsmost common band of 432 with two of the less common bands, 2304 and10 GHz. On 432 Gary made 10 contacts by 5 grids, on 2304 he made 2contacts by 2 grids, and on 10 GHz he made 7 contacts by 2 grids fora total score of 1,518 points. Congratulations Gary. Notablemention goes to VE3CRU/R and N0EDV/R.
2015Wesslund Award: TheWesslund Award honors Robert (Bob) Wesslund, W0AUS, for his manyyears of significant contributions to the Northern Lights RadioSociety and for his continuous work with mentoring others in theWorld Above 50 MHz. This award is presented annually to recognizethose NLRS members who have assisted others in gaining knowledge andaccess to the bands above 50 MHz. Thisyear’s award winner was first licensed in 1978, and like many of ushis main interests has been in VHF, UHF and microwave DXing. Ouraward winner is a member of the ARRL, RSGB, Northern Lights RadioSociety, Central States VHF Society, and also the Royal Naval AmateurRadio Society, not to mention that he serves a pretty mean curry dishtoo. His “Ping Jockey” server has helped the VHF community stepinto the digital age and his server is THE meeting ground for all VHFoperators working “the rocks” and EME. Our award winner’s webservers have also supported regional specialized reflectors that havegreatly enhance the microwave activity in the Upper Midwest. Additionally, he has served the Northern Lights Radio Society as VicePresident and the Central States VHF Society on their IT committee. For hissustained service to the global VHF community the Northern LightsRadio Society awards the 2015 Wesslund Award to Chris Cox, N0UK.
Prize Drawings: First place was a $50 random drawing from those who summited ARRL contest logs with two second place random drawings for $25 each from conference attendees. AC0RA/R was our first place winner while N0HZO/R and N0NAS were the two second place winners.
Aurora 2016: Targeted date is April 23, 2016.
