Warren,

It has been some time so my information will be a bit dated but I have
built a Kuhne 10Ghz kit as well as a few DEMI units (1296 through 5760).

I was in my forties and my eyes were in better shape then but I was able
to build the Kuhne unit without too much for special tools at the time.
The component sizes for the Kuhne kit were very tiny (compared to DEMI)
and it was a challenge. Testing of the stages and alignment were very
simple. At the time soldering the case was a somewhat uncomfortable
maneuver that I wish was not required - maybe that has changed since..

The downside to the DEMI 5760 unit (same as the 10Ghz at the time) was
soldering of the pipe caps - that was the part I did not care for.
(Maybe Steve has improved on that requirement as well..)

Even with extensive experience building kits I still ended up with a
solder bridge on my Kuhne 10Ghz unit that kicked my butt for a while.
The folks at Kuhne were happy to quickly find the problem and repair for
me - I have been very impressed with their support.

In terms of performance I also have a factory assembled Kuhne unit that
I use on my portable 5.7 and 10Ghz station that compares very well to my
kit although the measured power out of the kit is higher (280mW).

The Kuhne units have a very low noise figure and maybe a bit less RX
gain compared to my DEMI transverters. Very seldom do I have a problem
working stations on both bands if equipped.

Not sure if this helps but that was my experience.

Either way - good luck and pse consider getting on 5.7 too - there needs
to be more activity there..
