WA0ROI at Sheldahl Iowa is running national federal nets for CAP and is
involved with ALE and is making presentations on those topics. I don't
know if you can get him north. C Brudtkuhl <brudtkuhl at iowatelecom.net> I
think they are keeping him busy.
I know that basically ALE lets the hardware set the frequency and it
tries all the available frequencies to establish a link without any
input from the user who gets basically the same connection as by wire
but its by HF SSB radio. I'm sure the ALE radios have some special
inquiry and response encoding and Chuck says they work best with a broad
band antenna like the B&W resistive loaded folded dipole if its
installed properly, but some ALE radios do include automatic memory
antenna tuners. I suspect the user interface includes the desired
connection location or station and the hardware takes it from there.
