To the participants of the 2014 ARRL UHF Contest, Thank you. In the log are:
W0ZQ/R, NT0V, N0AKC, K2DRH, K9MU, VE4MA, WV9E, AC0RA/R, KA0RYT, W0UC, W0GHZ and K0SIX. I think that is a complete list.
Conditions varied from quite good at times to poor. Right out of the gate Saturday, Gary W0GHZ was 20db above "summer normal" on 10GHz tropo. Barry VE4MA and I ran the table this morning .. 222,432,902,1296 first Qs of the day, very nice way to start. Jon W0ZQ/R arrived on the scene Sunday morning and pretty much saved the contest for me, working him in EN35, EN25 and EN24. Clean sweep in all grids except a miss on 10GHz from EN35. SO GOOD to have more than one 10GHz QSO in the log again. 10GHz contest Qs have been really limited for the last several contests. The 902 count was up to the highest since Aug 2011. It is a great band. You just need a good filter to keep out the cell crap.
222 and 432 were squirrely as "all get out" working Dennis Sunday morning around 11:25-11:30 am, Signals would be S5 one moment and almost gone the next, just nuts. One of the better Qs of the weekend was with AR0AR/R EN41ax Saturday at 367miles!! WOW..Wyatt really has a great rover signal. Sadly he was beyond my range on Sunday.
A very good opportunity for 10GHz RS contacts to the Twin Cities the last hour of the contest was pretty much lost. I did work Jon on RS, but we had been working tropo before. Gary was great FM 5-9+ copy.
End result was nothing special, but a middle of the pack for this contest at my location. My home grid was not worked sad to say, or it could have been better by over an additional 1000pts! Oh well ...
222 -- 15 Contacts -- 11 grids
432 -- 13 Contacts -- 9 grids
902 -- 6 contacts -- 6 grids
1296 -- 8 contacts -- 6 grids
10GHz - 3 contacts -- 3 grids
45 contacts -- 35 multipliers and total score -- 7,140pts
