Hello NLRS land -
As you may have heard the ARRL is sponsoring a Centennial QSO Party that runs through all of 2014. Here is a cut and paste of the Purpose statement -
The ARRL Centennial QSO Party is a year-long operating event that celebrates hams making contacts. In the end you will have accumulated points, worked new stations and made new friends all over the world. W1AW will be on the air from every state and most territories, and it will be easy to work WAS working only W1AW portable operations. This is the first ARRL-sponsored operating event where every member is worth at least one point, so work as many points as you can during 2014! Earn awards based upon points, working all states or working W1AW portable in every state and territory. This is an on-the-air event like no other.
You can learn more about this event at http://www.arrl.org/centennial-qso-party .
The hosting club for the two different weeks where W1AW/0 will be based in Minnesota is the Minnesota Wireless Association (MWA). Bill, AC0W, is the MWA coordinator and he has asked me to help him with the coordiantion of who is using W1AW/0 on 50 MHz and up while he works to coordinate 29 MHz and down.
W1AW/0 will be based in Minnesota the week of 1/29/14 and 6/11/14. Mark this on your calendar. Each week runs from 00Z Wednesday to 2359z the following Tuesday (one full week). Those who are sharp of eye will notice that this first week includes the weekend of the Minnesota QSO Party while the second week includes the weekend of the ARRL June VHF Contest.
So this note is a heads up to those VHFers who are interesting is using the W1AW/0 call sign on 50 MHz and up during these two weeks. I am think that we can parcel its usage out one day here, one day there, etc, depending on the interest level. I would be especially happy to see W1AW/0 to also get used for some high visibility, high activity, events. For example, maybe to use W1AW/0 for a MN based Grid expedition, or maybe for a large scale multi-op event. Two past examples that come to mind are last years W0W operation and the work a few years ago for the W0AUS UHF multi-op. Anyone planning something like this that would like to use W1AW/0?
As the VHF coordinator for W1AW/0, let me know if you would like to use this call sometime during these two weeks. It could be for a day, or several days, etc. I would like to be able to share this around Minnesota. Again, this is for 50 MHz and up as 29 MHz and down is being coordiated elsewhere.
PS: For those who do host the W1AW/0 callsign during these two weeks, you need to be in Minnesota and you need to be able to generate an ADIF log file. The ADIF log file gets sent to the League to be used for the various awards that are discussed on that website.
