I'm unable to properly submit a comment thru this new
vhf-activity.blogspot resource, so I will use the trusty ol'
NLRS list to clarify a few things.
1) It's good to see the recent burst of new initiatives.
Congrats to all who are trying to improve things.
2) If you want to know what's going on with nets within
several hundred miles of MN/Dakotas/VE-3/4/IA, then
kc9bqa.com is your best source, just like it has been for
over 4 years now. There's far more going on than most
realize (or take advantage of).
3) Once at kc9bqa.com, take several minutes to scan
thru the last month or two's worth of posts headlines.
Find the info you want and pin it to your V/U calendar,
whether it's nets or contesting that you are interested in.
4) The current 144.240 long-range net info (May 2013)
is this: Net control is WB9LYH EN54cl, middle of WI,
near WI Rapids. Start time is 8pm central from May-Oct.
and 7pm from roughly Nov-Apr. Net starts out looking east,
then south, then west and north. This means NLRS-land
should be on board about 8:30-8:45pm.
WB9LYH has stacked 17B2's and 500 watts from a
ridgetop QTH and he loves DX-type check-ins. For years,
we've extended ourselves via my website, via weekly email
reminders, so on and so on. As always, the challenge is
getting folks on the air.
We are always happy to work EN37, the Dakotas, and
yes, perhaps VE-4 with the right conditions. We also value
armchair-copy check-ins like K0SIX and W0ANH.
Thanks, 73,
Todd KC9BQA EN63ao 40 N of Milwaukee
