The RRV Rover(s) will be out activating "fringe" grids during the June VHF
contest. Looks like the Manitoba stations (VE4MA, et. al.) and northern RRV
stations (W0PHD and NT0V) are on board but, we still need to hear from more
of other stations up and down the Red River Valley.
Saturday will find us driving north on MN 59 from the 4-corners near Elbow
Lake, MN up to the 4-corners near Thief River Falls, MN; overnighting at
Grand Forks, ND.
Sunday will find us driving south on US I29 from Grand Forks to Sioux Falls,
SD and then back nearer the Twin Cities (details tbd).
Yes, we'll be listening for the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin stations
but, you'll have to point West (+/-) and listen for "weak signals" from
these "fringe" grids.
We'll be configured as a "limited" rover (6, 2, 1.25 & 0.7 meters) with good
power and stacked yagis operating in stop-push-up-and-shoot rover style.
This will allow us to seek out good operating locations for better results.
Any other rovers craving the challenge of "fringe" roving are welcome to
participate but, not as a "rover-pack". In addition to filing a regular ARRL
log submission and with the magic of W0JT's macros, we'll be testing
"distance scoring" to see how that works out during a real event. Yes, we
know we'll be outside the NLRS club service area and will need 6 digit grid
square data to make this work.
So, if you're able to get on the low bands during the June VHF contest (8th
& 9th) and are located in the RRV or adjacent area, then please respond so
that we know you'll be out there and can look for you. Just press your
e-mail "respond" key now before you forget. Your call sign and grid square
are all then we need.
