[NLRS] ARRL: Proposed 3 and 5cm band plans

I kind of wish I knew what technologies they were thinking of for the
analog and digital bandwidths in the 0-100KHz range. There just isn't
much call for analog or digital in those limits right now and I'd like
to know what they see on the horizon..... I suppose the paired
frequencies at 25KHz BW could be analog FM, but I haven't heard of
anyone building a FM voice repeater on 5.8GHz yet.... :-)

I see three current ham uses of the band: weak signal (green), amateur
satellite (lite blue), and HSMM (orange). And I see that all three are
represented.

Personally, I like the idea of FM ATV or digital ATV on the 3.4GHz and
5.7GHz bands for ATV linking or repeater outputs. I've suggested it to
the local ATV group a number of times but they haven't been
interested. But that use would easily plug into the experimental area
or the >1MHz BW digital area if they want to share with HSMM.

As for "breaking" the bandplan by occasionally operating -2.5MHz split
for weak signal, I wouldn't give it a thought. I doubt you will ever
find anyone using that analog-digital >=25KHz section anyway. You are
more likely to encounter QRM from WiFi channel 153 than you are to
find another ham user in the 5757MHz range....
