Subject: [NLRS] AirScout for aircraft scatter

A month or two ago I suggested the possibility of doing lightwave comms by
scatter from airplane contrails. I mentioned that ADSB beacons sent from the
aircraft allow us to track them hundreds of miles away. And maybe this data
could be coupled with something like the rain scatter programs for path
prediction....

Tonight I found this email on the UKnanowaves reflector:

DL2ALF tool for aircraft scatter prediction, called AirScout

This link just popped up in the digital group , might be useful ?

So in case anyone is interested, the link goes to a blog post describing the
program and how it works. AirScout uses Open Street Maps and topo info to
avoid pointing too low into a mountain or hill.
This might work for light, it will probably work as intended for 10GHz too.
The author of the blog was trying it on 1296.

Just one more tool to play with. Since the program requires Internet access
for maps, it might be worth seeing if it can interface with the output of a
DVB-T dongle receiving the ADSB signals on 1GHz. And then see what can be
done about saving the map files on the local computer.
But at least it should work for home stations....
