Hi guys.
If anyone is looking for sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries for their
10GHz (or other) portable operations, Harbor Freight (HF) has some
options on sale right now.
For $50 you can get a portable car starter box that uses a 12V 17
Amp-hour battery and includes the battery trickle charger. Beware of the
car starter boxes in the $30-$40 range since they often have a 7 or 10
Amp-hour battery instead.
HF is also advertizing a 12V 34 Amp-hour SLA for $75 if you can accept a
larger, heavier battery without a case.
Either battery should be able to run a 10GHz system for most of a day
roving. You will have to do your own calculations based on standby
current draw to see how long it will last for you.
If you don't mind spending money and want a bigger battery, check out
the AGM battery styles. You will not find them at Harbor Freight, and
will pay a premium price, but it is the best battery style for deep
discharge and deep cycle standby service.
