Grandson and family are visiting and we were "at the waters edge" most of the day. This was the first day of their visit. All of us had far more sun than we are used to by late afternoon. So we went up to the house...... I discovered as I walked by the shack that 6m was really hot to the NE. This was about 21:30z. I trolled for some NE states for a while when one of the east coast guys said that there were LOTS of guys working LOTS of 2m Es into the midwest. I turned on the 2m Softrock based panadaptor ....

Nothing here .... at least at that point. I continued to troll 6m watching both the 2m and 6m panadaptors ....

  22:53z   NT4RT  EM94  SC was worked with 5-9 reports

The skip was very much "in and out" with very brief periods of propagation, at times not long enough for a QSO. Several busted QSOs from fellows that just couldn't "get it together" quickly enough before the prop was gone. At least 2 of these were salvaged later when the same stations were heard again long enough for a complete QSO. Not all signals were 5-9, several were of the 5-2 or 5-5 variety. It was very interesting.. I heard several operators who were literary "breathless" .. overwhelmed with what they were hearing and working, it was more than just excited! Pretty neat. I wish Gene W3ZZ was still with us to put this opening in context. The QST writeup will be interesting!

In the end 14 stations in SC, NC, AL, GA and FL were worked. Two of the stations in FL were in EL87 south of St Pete ... not the usual panhandle or NE FL 2m Es opening. I don't think I had worked any of these particular stations on 2m Es before! That is unusual from my experience, having worked many stations multiple times over the years when the 2m Es shows up. The last station worked was K4QF  EM64  AL at  01:12z

The 144Mhz Sherlock Map was unlike anything I have ever seen. It looked like a GOOD 6m map! I have one desktop JPG of the map if you are interested and missed it. email me and I can send you the pix

1 1/2" of rain in the night and I had to retrieve 3 dock panels found floating in the lake at daybreak this morning ......  the lake is on the rise again ....
