Thanks for the QSO Ken!
I wondered where everybody was. I know it didn't help showing up
during the last hour and a half of contest, but I only made 10 QSO's
in 9 grids. Maybe everyone else had their antennas pointed away from
me.
The little Yagi I designed using Yagi Optimizer has a very high F/B
ratio. It seems to be a very sharp beam. If I rotate it 30 degrees
either way, a signal drops to almost nothing unless it's extremely
strong. I rotated a lot and called CQ and only got answers from the
north and east. K9MRI gave me a QSO even though the contest was over
for him. So did W9WZK.
I never heard K9JK/R. My noise level was very high on the hill in
EN50ue that I used. This hill is about 15 minutes from home and has
two commercial towers on it. One is a local FM station and the other
has microwave dishes on it. I've never noticed noise levels like last
night from there before, though. It was also very very foggy. That may
have had something to do with it.
I think I did hear W9FZ/R very faintly. I called CQ on CW in his
direction, hoping he could hear me and that we could work on CW, but
never heard any CW signal come back from that way.
Anyway, I hope to be on in the 222 Sprint too.
