Why does the route in have to be the same as the route out?  It isn't on my 
solar setup on my Westy camper.

I have two sets of leads going to the battery, one from the MPP controller and 
the panels, and one going to my loads.  Separately fused, separately 
everything.

A decent MPP controller will be gentle with charging, since they are smart 
chargers and will never overcharge.

They aren't cheap, but they last a long time and batteries don't.
