Can anyone on the reflectors get me a copy of the following article...
A Solid State Power Amplifier for 5.7 GHz by Richard M. Fogle, WA5TNY
... from the 1987 CSVHFS Proceedings?
A PDF file would be terrific, if you can scan the original directly to PDF.
Otherwise, a photocopy mailed to me would be just fine also.
It seems that Richard created a PCB that could be used to make a nice,
compact, high power (10 to 40 watts!) solid-state amplifier for this band.
I don't know if Richard has made the boards available, or sufficiently
high-quality artwork to duplicate it. And I don't know how widely available
the IMFET devices he used are these days. But if the parts and boards can
be found, it might make a nice winter project, even though I shouldn't have
"cabin fever" this winter ('cause I'll be basking in the sun in San Antonio
this winter).
He initially used IM6472-8 FET's, but these are designed for 6.4 - 7.2 GHz.
He also used IM5964-3 and IM5964-8 parts, which are designed for 5.9 - 6.4
GHz.
Toshiba also used to make IM5359-8SL parts, designed for 5.3 - 5.9 GHz,
which might work even better. (They also used to make the IM5359-35L, -45L,
and -60L, a pair of which could generate 70, 90, or 120 watts respectively,
but they are in a bigger package and so not a drop-in replacement for this
board.)
Thanks in advance,
John, W0JT
