Subject: 2304 Antennas

Thanks for the suggestions, some of them I had not thought of.

My current requirement is to get ready for Jan VHF from Ridgeway
EN35ja. There could possibly be three contacts within 12 miles,
with W0GHZ, W0ZQ and WB0LJC. So my current plan is to try building
a juice can circular waveguide with flare and the Bi-Quad with
reflector (I think the Germans called it Dopple Quad). I think
those will work out 12 miles from Ridgeway.

Beyond that, to get ready for San Bernardino, I want to try a Looper,
Bi-Quad on a dish, and maybe Quagi and WA5VJB Cheap Yagi.
I like Jon's suggestion of measuring these at AU 2012.

Current plan is to be at OCB this Saturday to discuss particulars.

Hi Mel.

Kent didn't make one for 2304. 1296 is as high as he's
gone. Straight yagis are touchy at 2304... margins maybe
+/- 1/32" to 1/16", plus small varations in materials (or
failure to follow directions EXACTLY) can make a big
difference in performance. A loop yagi is easier to
build... if you have the tools to make the elements.
Directive Systems sells'em... somewhat pricey, but....

What do you feel you need for gain ? A #10 juice can (46 oz
tomato juice, etc.) will make a horn w/~10 dB gain. Putting
a flare on it can get you more gain with simple
construction. If you're going to be at Breakfast next
weekend, we can talk.

A 2'  dish will give you ~22-24dB gain.  Could be wire frame;
doesn't have to be solid, although you'll not get quite as
much gain. 18-20 dB is still a fair amount.
