Ended up with just over a 14K claimed score. My station is at
about 70% strength, with various problems. Ended up doing a full
effort Saturday and another 6 hours on Sunday, 16 hours total.
Pulled the plug to enjoy NFL action after 1:30pm Sunday.
Was quite surprised at how low activity was. I could not have
publicized this contest harder. Not only to the 4 clubs (BC, SMC,
NLRS and CVVHF) but also to email lists I have for MI/IN/OH,
plus MO/IA. Plus general ham clubs who I've found some new
VHF'ers thru.
MI, WI, IL, IA, MN activity was dismal, especially Saturday.
Basically you had the same 15-25 stalwarts keeping things alive.
Sunday seemed a little bit better for activity. We had some
enhancement to the SE on Saturday late afternoon/early evening.
Conditions overall seemed better on Sunday morning, though.
Activity was terrific for *LAST* year's 2009 Sept. contest.
Not sure what caused at least a 50% dropoff. Whatever it is,
I don't like it. A constructive discussion about how to improve
activity would be a great topic for these reflectors.
I have more of my contest thoughts at kc9bqa.com.
