I understand that for many V/UHF contesters, the weekly
activity I've been promoting is not your idea of fun. I know
this because very few BC, SMC, NLRS or CVVHF members
are on for 222 Tuesdays. I would appreciate comments on
how to possibly improve this.

I still enjoy the contests first and foremost. Reason why
I started moving beyond contest promotion is that our bands
are too dead on a day-to-day basis. It's very hard to attract
new ops to weak-signal V/UHF when the only times they hear
activity are during contests and big band openings.

Our biggest challenge is finding ways to motivate V/UHF'ers
to get on the air -- AND call CQ. 10 guys "listening" means
the band stays quiet. 10 guys CQ'ing probably leads to 20-30
contacts. Dead air is the enemy of any ham. Consider taking a
bit of time to improve activity levels.

Rovers -- go put a tough grid on the air for 222 Tuesday
or for any of the good 144 nets in our area. Announce your
plans ahead of time, so guys know to get on and work you.
We've got to find a way to spice these 222 Tuesdays up.

222 Tuesday is again ON, as it is every Tuesday. It's a
general activity night for all USA/VE hams. Pick up the mic
or key, call CQ, swing beams. 222 Tuesday needs some
*serious* help in the Midwest/Great Lakes. Same 6-10
guys across a multi-state area has gotten really stale.

WB9LYH is on with the 144.240 long-range net from
near Wisconsin Rapids (EN54cl) Wed. night at 0100Z/8pm
central time. We're having fun with that, thank goodness.

If you want more detail about 222 Tuesday, 144.240
Wednesday, or if you want to read all about your V/UHF
options every week, it's all up at kc9bqa.com.
