Great feedback on beacons so far.
Well, it looks from other e-mails like the EN43 and EN53 beacons are going
to be back on the air, so I will not push forward with trying to get
something up on 144 MHz at my own QTH. Not interested in competing or
duplicating efforts with anybody. However, it sounds like there is still a
niche for other bands and that these would be useful to many hams. Let me
continue to look into the possibility of 222 and 432, at least. And
perhaps, per WB8SBD, that Hillsboro tower would be an option.
I talked to a ham down in Missouri a year or so ago who said that all of the
commercial microwave relay stations had been turned over to the MO Highway
Patrol and that the head of that organization had told the amateur radio
community they could use them for whatever they wanted (!). Now that would
be the perfect option for a statewide network of beacons! Wish we could do
that here in WI.
Thanks and 73,
David W9HQ
