Good Morning Jon, I have a package here left over from my TM-255/455's that
I used to use. I suspect that maybe not a good number from Kenwood anylonger
but the part number is/was B30-0865-15 I have one bulb left and most likely
will keep if just in case. I have used a Radio Shack bulb which is about the
same size etc although they are 12v 60ma but I have used these also. The
part number is 272-1092 and I think about $1.79 for a 2 pack. I guess I do
not remember if the 255 bulb is 6v or not but of course the 12v would be not
as bright in that case but should last a long time. Here is the link for the
RS bulb'

Subject: [NLRS] Bulbs for Kenwood TM255A
I have a Kenwood TM255a 2m multi-mode rig. The display has lost all of its
display lights making the LCD a bit hard to read .... especially when its
dark. Looking at the schematic, the bulbs are in series so I suspect that
they are 6 vdc incandescent bulb - mechanically they are about 0.120' wide
and 0.220" tall wire leads off the back end.
Does anyone know what the part number of these are or can suggest a
source ?
I'm also contemplating switching over to LEDs, but the control circuit
would need to change a little bit as the TM255 has an adjustable dimmer.
That plus I would need a white LED where the light is dispersive (like an
incandescent lamp) and not focused.
