Very interesting.  Given the size of the market it seems unlikely that someone would actually invest the cost and time of actually reverse engineering all the production mold tooling, etc, etc, etc,.  It may mean that the pirated Icom manufacturer is working with Icom suppliers (molded case, etc), or maybe they are actually an OEM manufacturer that made these for Icom (at one time?) and have gone rouge?   It would be interesting to know who is making these and how they are able to produce essentially fully equivalent (looking?) radios, etc.
