Hello NLRS land.
The 2010 ARRL UHF Contest results are in your January 2011 QST as well as available on-line at the Leagues website (with expanded results). Many thanks to John, K9JK, for another excellent write-up!
Overall, the club results were a mixed bag this year. On the down side, comparing 2009 to 2010, we had fewer logs (15 vs 31) and a lower overall score (469,380 vs 1,502,667). This isn't too surprising as NLRS put in a major effort with the W0AUS multiop in 2009, so we were a bit more burnt out come 2010. Many of the clubs hard core UHF guys are also involved in the 10 GHz & Up contest, and play in June as well. With the June VHF contest, CQWW VHF in July, the Central States gathering, the August UHF contest, then the two 10 GHz & Up weekends in August & September, its not surprising that one has to pick their battles. Yes Virginia, there can be too much of a good thing.
On the positive side, NLRS still managed to limp into second place in the nation out of 13 clubs in the medium category. We also had the most logs of any club. Given the half heart support we gave this one this year, its actually pretty impressive. However, I must be quick to point out that these results are in BIG part due to the nations top SOHP score from Mike, KM0T, who secured the #1 SOHP spot in the nation for the sixth year in a row. Count them, six years in a row! Mikes 338,574 points accounted for 72% of our clubs score!!. Across the club other notable scores came from Paul, W0UC, who finished 7th in the nation in the SOLP category and Bruce, W9FZ/R, who finished 9th in the nation in the Rover category. Nice going guys. Club logs were submitted by K0AWU, K0SIX, KC0P/R, KM0T, N0AKC. N0HZO/R, W0GHZ, W0GHZ/R, W0OHU, W0UC, W0ZQ, W0ZQ/R, WA0VPJ, WA2VOI/R, and WB0LJC/R. These stations made the following number of contacts: 222 (196), 432 (318), 902 (86), 1296 (113), 2304 (63), 3456 (34), 5760 (40), 10G (103), 24G (8).
Mark August 6, 2011 in your calendars for next years UHF contest and Rovermania. God willing and the creek don't rise, W0ZQ/R will be back with a full eight band multi-grid effort. Sure would be fun to see someone organize another W0AUS operation, perhaps from Buck Hill. I think that there are interested parties, the effort just needs a ring leader. With the Christmas season upon us, big piles of snow outside, and with a warm soldering iron in hand, now is a good time to think about adding one new band, building that kit that has been sitting in your closet for three years, upgrading systems, and repairing what's broken. A few of us have "excess" inventory - how about listing it on the NLRS reflector first and offering it at an attractive price to a fellow club member to help continue the growth that we have seen.
Seasons greeting to all in NLRS land.
73, Jon
W0ZQ/R
