Hi David. Keying the mic input on an FM rig usually doesn't work. Some
have reported success with using an FM rig for a weak signal beacon by
keying the Vcc to the final amplifier stage. The idea is to key the mic
input and low level stages keyed all the time, then CW key the Vcc to the
last amplifier stage. In some FM rigs, the last stage, or last two stages,
are supplied Vcc on a separate line that is "easy" to find, isolate, and
then key. Depending on the clicks generated, they can be softened using
a big capacitor on the Vcc line to control the ON and OFF time a bit.
