I think the uW modules are very good old technology - rugged, good
sensitivity, but may lack the dynamic range of the newer Down East, TenTec, or
DB6NT designs. If you can find one at a decent price, they are indeed a good
performer. Through the years I've used the 222-28 and the 1296-144 "black
boxes" .... they worked great. Some of the parts for the uW modules are
getting hard to find - yes, there are some "equivalent" parts that you may be
able to use.

If I was buying "new", I'd look to the newer DEM, TenTec, or DB6NT
transverter designs with more modern mixers and active devices the provide a
better dynamic range and that have parts available for when you blow up
something.

My $0.02 worth.
