First I want to thank all of those that year after year do so much to make the AU event a success, as well as making the NLRS
one of the finest amateur radio organizations in the country. As a group we are very lucky to live in an area with so many that
are so willing to give so much of themselves to our organization. AU10 is now sheduled and will be held May 22, 2010, a week
earlier to avoid Memorial Day. Weather like yesterday is too good to pass up!
As John K9JK has done earlier, thanks to Curt, Paul, Donn, Glen, John T. and others for the venue, administration, antenna range, operation ,the very efficient business meeting and transparent flawless media support. It sounds as though Jon W0ZQ had a wonderful day and his efforts prior to our meeting should receive credit as well. As mostly an "attendee", I fear that I
have missed others that worked hard to see than we had a great day.
I want to thank Eddie VE3KRP, Barry VE4MA, Jim K0MHC, Mel KC0P and Rich N0HJZ for their time, effort and willingness to prepare their presentations for us. The lineup kinda looked like a good DX opening for a while. Lots of over the VHF horizon grid squares! It is so much fun to see what is happening in hamshacks other than our own.
If you missed AU09, our program included:
K9JK John's CQ VHF contest awards and encouragement to "be in Chicago for the CSVHF 2009 Conference, July 23-25."
VE3KRP Eddie's very successful entry into EME on 1296 (Over 50 initials!!)
N0HJZ Rich encouraging to plan ahead for the Aug UHF contest
WA0VOI/ KC0IYT- NLRS Business meeting
K0MHC Jim's efforts to keep ahead of the oak trees, unassisted installation and maintenance of a 108ft VHF/UHF microwave tower/ antenna system.
VE4MA Barry's very successful experiences with REAL solid state power at 902 and above. We are talking >400w!
KC0P Mel's observations on the use of 28vdc realys on 12vdc and sequencers.
K0AWU SoftRock SDR Update.. 1w Transceivers, single band receivers and the V9 160-10m receiver.
I plan on later posting a group of web links related to the presentations for your reference. Too much GOOD info out there that
escapes as the Power Point slides advance.
A personal note. I want to thank those that were on the Wesslund Award selection committiee. You have no idea the honor I feel to be considered, much less receive this award. Having lived within VHF range of MSP since 1968, first from Grand Forks,ND and now EN37 it has been the activities of past and present members of the NLRS that have inspired, educated and allowed me
to continue enjoying the hobby that "chose me" in 1955. From W0LER and my nightly 432 skeds in the late 60's to W0AUS and
K0FQA's first 10Ghz QSO from the "copper top church" to the harbor in Duluth all those many years ago, to more recent encourgement and assistance to join in the 10Ghz fun.
Thank You all.
