Scott and I made the (mostly) annual voyage to Copper Harbor for the contest. We left Friday around lunch and arrived at 6:30 p.m.. 6M was open to California for a good portion of the trip, so Scott made several contacts and passed out EN46 and EN56 while I drove. We supported the Copper Harbor Fire Department by eating their spaghetti for supper, which was quite good.

Saturday morning we woke and made our way to the top of Brockway Mountain. For the first time that either of us could recall, we actually had all radios and antennas functional before contest time. We found ourselves with a steady stream of visitors and questions, so actually getting on the radio proved to be quite difficult. By the time we did, several hours into the contest, we found 6 meters wide open. It didn't take long for us to have 100 contacts. Mike, K9SJ, who lives in Copper Harbor spent the afternoon with us in the observer mode. He was a great guy and a lot of fun to talk with. The black flies were, by far, the worst we have ever seen. We were miserable to the point of discussing going home. We have been going up there for 15 years (shy of a couple of missed years) and I can honestly say that I have never seen bugs this bad, although I didn't admit that to Scott as I pleaded to stay!

Sunday morning we found relief from the black flies and were able to work another 40 stations or so at which time the bands folded. We called CQ and QRZ for an additional 6 hours, only to have a couple of responses. We have decided that next year my modified A50-5S is definately on the pack list. My newly purchased software by N3FJP was awesome and will definately operate all contests.

Our results are as follows:

6M = 142 Q's in 72 grids
2M = 3 Q's in 3 grids
222 = 1 Q in 1 grid
432 = 2 Q's in 2 grids

Total score = 11,778
