The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
The Good: Huge 6 meter opening on Saturday for about 3 hours to the east
coast areas. Got into the FN7x grids and a couple dozen FN25/35's. Lots of
fun! Best DX was into DK79/69 Sunday afternoon.
The Bad: Started out the contest on Saturday with no 222 and my 432 on the
Yaesu FT847 was only outputting about 1.2 watts. The HF/28 Mhz on the 847
was completely dead with no output at all so no 222 with the Yaesu 847. I
did manage to kludge a old Kenwood 830S I had on Saturday night to work
with the DEMI transverter and it worked but the receive was shot on the
830s.
The Ugly: Started out Sunday morning with a completely dead Yaesu 847. The
power switch died (a common problem with the 847's) and left the rig
totally inoperative. I spent 5 hours working on the radio off and on and
finally got the MOX button to work as a temporary power switch. Lost a huge
chunk of operating time on Sunday because of that problem and got on about
2pm well after the west coast openings ended.

This was my 3rd best June VHF ever. But it could of been so much better.
But it was no where near 2006 in terms of openings or activity. Next up is
the CQ VHF and then the 847 goes in for repairs. After thousands of Q's and
dozens of VHF/UHF contests, it needs some TLC now.
