[NLRS] LMR400 and N connectors

You are really not suppose to solder the center pin on a properly designed
crimp connector. If it is the correct connecter size for the cable and the
correct die set for the crimp you have a far superior mechanical and RF
electrical connection with the straight crimp. This is a cold weld to the
wire and will not suffer the oxidation effects of solder especially if salt
is introduced. It is the only type of connection recommended for salt water
marine environments and milspec for Navy vessels. I have use RF Industries
products for over 20 years and those cables are still as good as the day I
made them. I spliced several cables for TCFMC 12 years ago after a squirrel
sat on the tower and chomped on them, then I put cut up bicycle inner tube
pieces over each splice closed up on each end with UV electrical tape. The
connections never suffered RF degradation and when they recently had to take
everything down, (Golden Valley kick them out) I was told they were as shiny
as the day I put it all together.

I FAR prefer the crimp connectors. Incidentally I generally solder the
center pin but I buy the silver/gold connectors from Coaxwarehouse on eBay
(no affiliation) and bought a crimp tool (I think from the same guy). I am
NEVER going back. They are so easy to use and so fast and they work great.
When working on a project and someone needs jumpers, I say "how many"
instead of "ohhh yuk."
