I will be hosting the 144 SSB nets tonight, as usual. Make sure
your 2 meter rigs and antennas are working FB and getting out,
in advance of the upcoming contests.
If you like short emails, know that everything about these 144
and 146 MHz weekly nets is explained in a post I just made to
http://www.kc9bqa.com
144.240 at 7:15-8:15pm is probably your best option. With the
144.240 net I like to use this page to give real-time updates:
http://dxworld.com/vhfqso.html Feel free to "raise your hand" there
or to QSY with other net stations to get more contacts in your log.
Great news that KC9ECI Tom is going to op from way up high
on Decorah Peak in EN44 this weekend.
Also looking forward to the Aug UHF on Aug 1-2. I will be
playing in most of both contests. Hope to work many of you, as time
permits.

In addition to KC9ECI being high up in EN44, there are other
exciting things going on this weekend on 6 and 2m SSB. Significant
rover activity in N WI and into the UP of MI. N9WU,
K9JCZ and WD9EXD have all emailed to say that they plan on
activating various NC and NE WI grids on July 18-19. K9CT and
N9LR will be portable from EN67, starting on Friday, with good
beams for 6 and 2, up high + QRO from an outstanding location.
There will also be the loudest signal ever on 6 and 2 from Madison,
EN53. NR9R Anthony will be using the BARS station on the UW
campus, where the yagis are up at the 250' level.
Make a note of these times please: 9-11pm on Sat. July 17th and
6-8am Sun. July 18th. Those will be activity periods for stirring up
more action on the FM side during the contest. Promote those times
to "ordinary" hams, and encourage them to try doing a VHF contest
with Whatever They Have. 52.525 MHz on 6, and 146.550-146.580
MHz on 2. Use 146.400-146.490 if it gets very busy. This idea of
including the FM-only stations worked out very well back in January,
so let's keep moving forward with it. If you promote it, it does
get some new ones interested in V/UHF contesting.
There's a more detailed post on the website dated July 12th,
explaining the full reasoning behind having FM activity periods in
V/UHF contests.
If it's about V/UHF within a few hundred miles of Wisconsin, I'm
talking about it at www.kc9bqa.com. All about nets, improving
activity and contesting on VHF/UHF.
