I haven't looked at the rules governing the bands above 300GHz in a long
time.
The way I have 'interpreted' the rule is that both sides need to have at least
some stage of electronic detection to qualify.
As for 'coherent light', that will be the stickler there. I have looked at that as
ANY light source, be it Laser or light emitting diode that has at least one stage
of electronics for transmitting or receiving on each end of the path.
The 1km rule I think should be upped to maybe 5km I think. But the General
rules state that any equipment must be able to cover 1km already. Are those
rules going to be changed also to reflect a change for 300GHz and above also
to reflect that? This rule from the VHF rules is what I am refering to:
1.10.While no minimum distance is specified for contacts, equipment should
be capable of communications at a range of at least 1 km.
As for doing other modes, Does anyone have any ideas that would be 'somewhat'
simple to build that would NOT cost an arm and a leg to build that would be able
to do all modes including digital modes such as SSTV, PSK, and WSJT?
