Try calling again, I got through to them, they were very helpful, e-mailed a copy of the circuit diagram, and then sent me a set of diodes, the big ones, gratis.

Subject: [NLRS] ASTRON analog PS issue, maybe

... It appears that I may have a problem with a RS 35M. I say
"appears" ... last week I have the feeling it may have contributed to
the "killing" my Icom 746Pro. The Pro is now totally dead and is on
it's way to Icom. The Pro had other issues too, so this made it "easy"to return
it to Icom AGAIN.

I have little to work with really. First the Pro .... spontaneously
"shutdown" mid transmission and then spontaneously recovered some
moments later. (Entire radio goes black like the power was turned off)
This occurred 4 or 5 times in a short period and then the Pro died
completely. It appeared the RS 35M was and continued to operate
normally. (Front panel metering) The cables and fuses were checked on
the 746Pro and appeared to be ok. No amount of wiggling of connectors
etc made any difference and 12V was present at the end of the cable at
the radio back panel.

Why is this the RS 35Ms problem? .... well may be and may not be ...
2nd problem .... A Flex Radio SDR1000 operating on this same supply
(not simultaneously) exhibits spontaneous shut down while the auto
tuner is tuning from time to time. This occurs on multiple bands and
occurs on antennas that exhibit low inherent SWR. Same deal ... entire
radio dies .... I must take the radio "off line" to recover.

Why is this the RS 35Ms problem? .... I have a BRAND NEW Yaesu FT857D
which I use on this same supply (not simultaneously) When the 857D's
power is turned on... the RS 35M's DC output momentarily goes to VERY
low output voltage. (Another radio on the RS 35M "in receive", dial
lamp's go OUT for an instant). Like a glitch toward 0V DC output of the
RS 35M. IF I OPERATE THE FT857D on my RS 20M supply, the supply does
not "glitch" to a low voltage condition in the same way when the FT
857D is turned on.

I have attempted to call Aston at the published number
1-949-458-7277 and I get no answer. I have tried this number many
times today.

THE ONLY THING COMMON TO ALL OF THESE ISSUES IS THE ASTRON
RS 35M POWER SUPPLY. Any ideas?? This is strange... crowbar issue of some
kind??? The supply is operating way below rating... way below!! The Icom issue
occured on 50Mhz SSB and then on 2m WSJT at 50W output. Current draw on the
RS35M was at less than 15amps total.
