Hello NLRS land

Next weekend, May 2 - 3, is the San Bernardino Microwave Society 2.3 GHz
and Up Contest. The contest is similar to the ARRL's 10 GHz & Up contest.
One aspect that makes this contest different from other contests is that
its a club competition in which club members tally up their scores and add
them with other members' scores to make up a club score. Full rules can be
found at http://www.ham-radio.com/sbms/2009_2ghz-up_test.pdf .

This year the club is focusing on major activity for Sunday, May 3. We
have secured permission to use Buck Hill as a fixed-portable site. Those who
have expressed interest in operating from Buck Hill on Sunday include
N0KP, W0GHZ, W0JT, WB0LJC, and KD0JI. At the same time a rover group will be
starting at the Highview Ave site just south of Cannon Falls and will be
running south for the day. The rover group so far is W0ZQ, WA2VOI, KC0IYT,
and N0EDV, with first Q's at 8:00 to 8:30 am. 146.46 FM. In the event of
serious weather, or rain, we will play this by ear ... we could switch to
Saturday and/or use the Park & Ride ramp in Eagan as the back-up site.

Both KM0T and K0AWU have indicated that they will be available on & off
during the day on Sunday and both the fixed site and the rover pack are
encouraged to work them - both are longer shots compared to Buck Hill and both
are in different directions.

We are encouraging all club members to come out and play. This contest
is focused on 2.3 GHz and up, so if you have one of those bands, or more,
please consider joining either the fixed site at Buck Hill or give roving a
try with the rover pack. This is a very laid back affair and you can join
us, leave us, as your time permits (ie; its for fun !). We do have two
10GHz loaner systems - one is an AUS system that Donn, WA2VOI has. I believe
its 2 watts and a 19" dish. The second system is my 2 watt system with a 17
dB horn - very easy to use, and it should be capable of working the path
between the rover pack and Buck Hill as these distance will be fairly short.
Please drop either Donn, WA2VOI or myself an email if you would like to
borrow one of these systems and play.

Anyone else coming out to play ?

73, Jon
W0ZQ
