Both this and the other auction item (300304785588) appear to be Surveyor's
Transit tripods with an added "thingie" (the vertical masting).
I have one of the bare tripods (~$50 at Menards ~2 years ago); Tony also tried
one. There needs to be something to prevent the legs from splaying out... one
of the auctions has a picture showing a chain... both Tony and I decided that
wasn't sufficient.
Now, Scott, N0EDV, has something similar, if not the same thing for his 10GHz
station. I "think" he's using Aluminum tubing as the restraining device.
Scott ?
Regardless of what's used to keep the tripod from doing the "splits," some
adapter needs to be added to allow the dish and 10GHz unit to be placed on it,
not unlike what we do now with the tripods we have. For me, 1-1/4" pipe works
well.
