[NLRS] QST Content and New Hams

Hello all:

My posting generated much more discussion than I anticipated
and all good points.

Now as I reread my original posting, you might assume that
I'm not embracing of new hams and and am trying to demand
just the content that I want. That's not what I intended to
convey at all. Well, the reason for my post is actually a
bit more subtle and may have been missed. I like Bill's,
Dick's, and Rich's comments. I am all for embracing the new
ham--it's crucial to our future if we want to have anybody
to talk to. I think NLRS is actually doing a pretty good
job of trying to show that the "technical" can be fun--even
without getting too technical. And of each of us can be an
Elmer, or a leader in our behavior and in teaching others.

So my subtle point is that if we don't speak up, we won't
get ANY content of interest. I don't need it to be all
perfect content for me. I'm just scared of losing all
access to content appropriate for me (and I assume some of
you other readers). I want the full range of articles. An
occasional article by Rick Campbell or something about
construction is great. My over arching encouragement is to
at least speak up via polls, or letters to the editor, or
whatever for the content you desire. And I'm quite
accepting of compromises like teaser articles (about
technical stuff) in QST and expanded articles via web
access. I just don't want technical articles to completely
disappear.

Whoever made the point about writing articles was a good
one. Remember when QST had construction articles? While
I'm not capable of a construction article, I write what I
can for CSVHFS proceedings.

So please don't think I'm not embracing of new hams-we need
them BIG TIME--and gentle articles are what they need. I'm
all for that. I hope QST continues to have a few issues
each year that I find "quite good". My point is that rather
than just "hope", I'm encouraging those interested to at
least share their views.

Thanks for the discussion. What are some other ways we can
"act locally" ?
